The Oranje Voetbal Club GU-9 squad welcomed new coach Gil Vejar in style. In his debut tournament with the girls, the team captured the Nott’s Forest Memorial Day Cup title. OVC faced off against the Carlsbad Lightning in the finals, where OVC shot its way to a 2-1 victory. The game was close in the early goings, with both teams heading into intermission tied at one.

OVC’s Claire Watkins came out in the second half ready to bring home the win. Watkins scored on a crossed pass from forward Lizbeth Hernandez, with a first touch with the left foot about 15 yards out. Hernandez took matters in her own feet 15 minutes later when she scored on a header from about 6 yards out. Hernandez’s goal marked her 13th in five games.

At the other end, keeper Zoe Hull allowed just three goals in the weekend’s tournament with the help of her defense, which was led by sweeper Bianca Dueno. Every player logged heavy minutes, as the team had only one sub.

Color me loveable

By Barrie Dolnick
Most of us have a favorite color
. Maybe you’re drawn to sky blue because it makes your eyes stand out or you find forest green particularly comforting. Whatever the case, your preferred hue can reveal a lot about what makes you tick. And the same holds true for the people you date—you’d probably have a different impression of a date if he or she said, “My favorite color is yellow,” versus “My favorite color is black.” That’s because color speaks a powerful, silent language. And I can help you understand it. I’m a success coach and best-selling author of Simple Spells for Love and other books, and I’ve studied color theory. So, look up your favorite color below — and your date’s best-loved shade — and get some colorful insights that will benefit your romantic life.

Orange
What it represents: OK, orange is not exactly the easiest color to wear and it’s not the most common favorite color, but guess what? Orange is as sexy as it gets. Orange is a mellowed red—and it takes primal, lusty urges and mellows them with a softer vibe. Orange is the color of early attractions, emotional responses, and inner magnetism. Oh, and one other thing: Orange is also close to gold, the color of success and wealth.

Understanding people who love it: Someone who likes orange is alive with feelings, the ability to nurture, and can intuit a path to success. If your favorite color is orange, you don’t have an “off” switch when it comes to passion. This is all good stuff, but there’s nothing casual about the connections this kind of person usually forges.

A mother was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her teenage son. Suddenly the boy bursts into the kitchen.

"Careful ! CAREFUL! Put in some more butter ! Oh my goodness ! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them ! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my ! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER ? They're going to stick ! Careful ! ... CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL ! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking ! Never! Turn them ! Hurry up ! Are you CRAZY! Have you lost your mind ? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!"

The mother stared at him. "What's wrong with you ? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?"

The son calmly replies, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm trying to play soccer. "
